But there is good news: we can heal and break these cycles, transforming our financial future with intentional actions and spiritual alignment.

In this post, we’ll explore the causes of money blockages, how to identify them, specific actions you can take to remove them, and how to incorporate shadow work and ritual practices to usher in abundance.

What Are Money Blockages?

Money blockages are subconscious beliefs, negative emotions, or generational traumas that prevent financial growth. Often, these blockages manifest as feelings of unworthiness, fear of success, and the deep-seated belief that we aren’t capable of achieving abundance.

For Black women, these blockages are compounded by external factors like systemic racism, sexism, economic disenfranchisement, and the lack of generational wealth. Many of us were not raised with financial literacy, and we may have inherited limiting beliefs about money that we unknowingly carry with us.

   • “Where do my beliefs about wealth come from?”
   • “What financial struggles did my ancestors face?”
   • “What part of me believes I don’t deserve financial abundance?”
   Journaling around these questions can help you uncover where your money blockages are rooted. Shadow work allows you to confront and release those fears, traumas, and limiting beliefs, making space for new, positive beliefs about wealth.
2. Identify and Rewrite Limiting Beliefs: Once you’ve identified the beliefs blocking your abundance, it’s time to replace them with empowering beliefs. If you grew up hearing, “We can’t afford that,” or, “Money doesn’t grow on trees,” begin to rewrite those beliefs with affirmations like, “I am worthy of wealth,” and, “Money flows to me easily.”
3. Break Generational Curses Around Wealth: Generational curses around money can be tricky because they’re inherited from our ancestors. To break these curses:
   • Acknowledge the financial struggles of your lineage.
   • Forgive your ancestors and yourself for the hardships they faced.
   • Commit to rewriting the narrative for future generations. Affirm that you are the chain breaker, and you will not pass down the same limiting beliefs around money.
4. Take Practical Action:
   • Financial Education: Learn about personal finance, budgeting, investing, and wealth building. Financial literacy is a tool for empowerment.
   • Start Saving & Investing: Even small amounts can accumulate over time. Begin with what you have and remain consistent.
   • Surround Yourself with Abundance: Pay attention to the language you use when talking about money. Speak affirmations and adopt a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity.

Simple Money Ritual to Attract Wealth

Rituals are powerful tools for shifting energy and intentions. Here’s a simple money ritual you can perform to invite wealth and abundance into your life:

You Will Need:

• 1 green candle (for prosperity)
• A citrine or pyrite crystal (for abundance)
• A small bowl of water
• A dollar bill or a coin
• Sweet Orange essential oil (for prosperity)

Instructions:

1. Set the Space: Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Light the green candle and place the bowl of water in front of it. Hold your crystal and take a few deep breaths to center yourself.
2. Anoint the Money: Place a drop of sweet orange essential oil on the dollar bill or coin and rub it in, visualizing wealth and abundance flowing to you.
3. Speak Your Intention: Hold the money in your hand and say, “I call in abundance, prosperity, and wealth. I release any fear or blockages around money and open myself to the flow of financial freedom.”
4. Dip the Money: Dip the money in the water, symbolizing a fresh start and a cleansing of your financial path.
